We've all probably seen them.

The players who join a server and say "im reviewig ur server can i have op plz???"

Well, I have a message to those people:

Stop. No one is going to believe you, unless the person you are trying to fool is that gullible. If you want OP on a server, perhaps you should apply for a moderator or admin if possible, or maybe play on that server for a while and be trustworthy. Follow the rules and you may get admin powers on some servers.

However, there are people who legitimately review servers for their blogs, maybe to share on various websites, etc.

I have a few tips for you: If you are one of the above people who ask for OP or flying to review a server... don't ask.

You are reviewing a server for other players, not admins or the owner. Reviews are made to inform people of how good a server is for the new players or people who are looking for a decent server.
Also, don't tell people that you are reviewing a server, as the staff and/or players can lie to you, saying that "they built everything" or that "they treat everyone nicely", and then you find out that they really just stole someone's schematic and they treat players like utter crap.

TL;DR: Don't ask for op and don't tell anyone that you are reviewing their server.

SOmeone came on a server I was on and said he was a reviewer but didn't ask for op. I said I didn't believe him.

If he didn't ask for OP, then he legit isn't wanting OP. Let him review the server.

That doesn't automatically make it true. It makes more sense for a reviewer to never announce that they are reviewing it because that biases how people treat them and they aren't actually playing on the server like a normal player would.

People might just say this because they think it will make the staff be nicer to them, or they might get free stuff without asking, or some other perk.

Yeah I guess you're right. Just saying you're new and need help looking around might work

Yeah, this is true, but it doesn't happen as much anymore now. It only happened in 1.2.5 and below, and only a little bit today.

Nah, I still see people try it a lot on smaller servers that they think really want the reviews.

Hrm. The server reviewer thing is an old statement these days. It does nothing, but make you an antagonist to the server. The sad thing is, some people legitamatley think they can claim Operator powers through this method, instead of using it to just troll, which I would assume is why many a person does it today.

But again, all this does is make you the villain, nothing good comes out of saying your from PMC for you or the server. The server has to lose a player or deal with you accordingly, which is work, and you do not get op and potentially get punished...

Not fun for anyone :(

Well when you review a server, you want to review a server from the players perspective, not the Administrators. Everything a player sees is amazing, but if you look outside of all of that, you could see a big huge mess.
I do agree with you, dont say you are reviewing the server, That could hide the true form of the server and lead to misleading information. People think that because they are "reviewing" the server they get special treatment then they ask for op. Then if they dont get thier special treatment, they will automaticly give you a bad review.

A good way to trick them. Use the Punishmental or whatever its called, then use the Fake OP punishment then it will send "You are now op" Even though they are not. If that isn't enough, create a new group in your group manager or PEX, and call it Admin. It may look the same but it is not. Then give them no permissions, that means they cant do anything. That is a good punishment.

I've done a server trailer for somebody, I didn't need op or flying. You honostly don't need anything other than being able to tp to the places you are reviewing, and be able to walk..

About that fly thing: If you want to take good screenshots to show a bit from the server (after reviewing)? :)
