Ban times!

Hello,

I've been recently thinking about the ban times on this website, and I have to say it's way too harsh for what it should be!

I don't think that you should be banned for Minimodding, as yes it may cause a flame war, but in the other hand it doesn't get someone punished as harshly. Commenting 'It's stolen' could just be a warning for other people to not comment/diamond on the submission, such as if it has already been reported, there's still no way people know it's stolen.

So I've come up with some specific ban times, as I don't agree with the whole 'add another week' in the ban system. You could be banned for a month for 4 tiny things. It's not exactly fair.

So here it is:
Least punishable to most punishable.

Minimodding - Warning. If they do it again, 5 hour ban. (Not ban from site, ban from posting/commenting.)

Spamming - Warning, they may have done it by accident. (If multiple spams, then a 10 hour ban. Again, not the ban from the site.)

Stealing builds/other projects - 48 hour ban from site, as it is taking someone's build and claiming it as your own. Even if it isn't copyrighted, it's still not yours to take.

Advertising other Websites - It's not really that much of a ban thing, but it could lead to the downfall of Planet-Minecraft. So I'd suggest a 24-hour ban. (Only other websites like this, discluding the Minecraft-Forums.)

Rudeness to users - 48-hour ban. You should not be rude to users. If the user did something to you, report them and ignore what they sent. (Not from site, from uploading etc.)

Rudeness to staff - Exactly the same, the Staff members and the Users should be thought of the same. Staff members are there to help, not to be scared of. (Again, not from site.)

Discrimination - 48-Hour ban from Site. Everyone on this site should be treated the same, whoever they are.

Swearing - 48-Hour ban from uploading etc. It's bad, and there are young kids on the website. But perhaps they live in a bad household, or they simply like swearing. Keep it the same time, they could be lying. You never know on the internet!

Racism - This can be anything from the N-word to big long paragraphs saying why a certain race is bad. This should be a week ban from the Site, as it's racist and it can easily hurt people's feelings.

Profanity - This is specifically about Nudity, Pornography, etc. This should be a perma-ban. Again, there are young kids under the age of 18 on this site, so anything like that should be strictly forbidden.

I myself have been banned a few times for things I shouldn't have done, and I regret them.

I hope this gets added, OGS16.

It's worth noting that different areas of the site have different ban times; chat, for instance, has harsher ban times because of its real-time nature, and for how simple its rules are. There's also a stepped infraction system there (0-2 is no ban, 3-5 is 1 day, 6-8 is 1 week, 9 is permanent) which is to discourage breaking rules, especially similar rules.

That being said, the ban system on the site & forums is much less simple and as a result it causes moderators to sometimes give different ban times for the same issue; we plan to homogenize the systems a little bit so that they all have a very similar system that, for the most part, manages itself.

Minimodding is not allowed due to the fact that it's not your position to enforce the rules. Instead, report and move on. Yes it's to prevent flaming, but it's also to remove members also possibly attempting to enforce rules when they could be wrong. Thus it would lead to confusion and more problems for the mods. We only ever give a one day ban for minimodding unless it's done repeatedly, in which case, the person should know by then.

Some of your ban suggestions are the same of what we already do and some are not, but for specific reasons. Moderating is not black and white. There is a lot of gray areas that we have to take into consideration regarding the severity and past moderation history.

So while we appreciate your suggestions, sadly we can't implement them.

I understand that. But what I don't understand is that whenever I have been banned, it could be for the silliest thing and it could be two weeks. Such as; I was banned for two weeks for Minimodding. Yes, I did it twice, but it's not that bad compared to the things I could have done.

Did you have a previous moderation history? We compound slightly. Not always, but we do sometimes depending on the situation.

I'm not going to mention who banned me, but it seemed like they only ban for fun. It wasn't a good reason, and it was pretty harsh.

I've been banned twice for minimodding. Each for one week. The last time I've been banned on this account was around a year to two years ago.

If you disagree with a ban, feel free to issue a ticket against the moderation actions appealing for action to be taken. That's partly why this system is set up. Said moderator will not be able to view the report or handle it.
