The option might be more viable, however, if you do what another forum I'm associated with does - "delete" doesn't actually delete, just hide the post from normal members. Thus, you get the delete you want, but it's still visible to curious mods.
As with the previous forums, I believe this is intentionally disabled to prevent people from trying to cover up their rule breaking. Just contact a Forum+ moderator if you need it removed.
But if you're going to delete it that might be because you realize you broke the rules, so that doesn't necessarily make it bad. Whether the poster or a mod deletes it, they probably realize their mistake. Also, maybe having the mods able to see them anyways could be possible, in case there is something which merits banning or some punishment,
Deleted comments don't have to be hidden from moderators, that's how wall post comments work. Or there could be a time that the comment stays visible before it is deleted.
