Achlys /ˈæklɪs/ (Ancient Greek: Ἀχλύς "mist"),[1] in the Hesiodic Shield of Heracles, is one of the figures depicted on Heracles' shield, perhaps representing the personification of sorrow. In Homer, achlys is the mist which fogs or blinds mortal eyes (often in death).

Achlys was a fairy dripping in color.
Her wings were a vibrant blue and her hair shifted purple hues.
But the faes envied her because they were born with earthy tones, so they decided to curse Achlys.
On her death day, Achlys' body slowly died — drained of color and her bones exposed a bit at the time.
She didn't understand how she could be conscious while watching herself rot.
Her beautiful tones dulled, and she became a gray-scale of what she once was.
Then one day while wandering alone through the dark forest, she found two delicate butterflies that were the same color that she was before her death day. She fed them luxurious pollen that she had stashed away, and they decided to trust her.
They stuck with her like a live corsage, which made her hopeful because now she had a bit of her color back.
