General Information

Hello guys! This is based partially on Philadelphia's Market Frankford El. The El runs on Seventh Avenue in my city project, and services the Orange Lines. It branches from the Blue and Red lines 2 stations to the south, and carries roughly 75,000 people in the city daily. The el runs next to uptown, where the Financial and Entertainment districts are. The line is operated by the =nta (Newford City Transit). Below on street level, riders are offered a free transfer to buses, especially to routes heading out of the state. El fare: $2.50.

History of the El

-The el line first opened on January 3, 1917 in Mankett Island.
-The line was opened as a spur from the then Mankett Rapid Transit Co. (MRT) 6th Avenue line, as many along Seventh avenue wanted El service, due to the closure of omnibuses.
-The line went from 11th Street all the way to Branks island, where it terminated at Woodlawn Station, 8 stops away.
-Initially, ridership was high, until September 6, 1938, when the Fulton Mankett Lines (FMT), opened their new subway line, the FMT Seventh Avenue Line, in order to compete with the MRT's El system.
-The Mayor at the time, James Carruthers, supported the FMT's construction of its subway lines, saying "These noisy steel structures block the sun from our streets. We must retain the beauty of our city by moving these things underground!"
-The construction of the FMT 7th Avenue Subway from 1934-1938 resulted in the closure and demolition of several tenements, much to the dislike of the residents, who opposed the subway's construction.
-By 1940, the El lines were starting to disappear from the city, and only the Second, Sixth, and Seventh avenue lines were left in the city. However, many still used the El more than the FMT's 7th Avenue Line below.
-In 1963, the newly formed, (nta), took control of all the city's transit companies, including the MRT and FMT. The El was now known as the nta Orange Line.
-On May 3, 1973, a bomb was planted in the switch tower at the El intersection on 10th & 6th Avenue, killing one person and resulting in many delays. El service was not back for another 3 weeks. Many had to use shuttle buses instead.
-In 1998, the West Side Elevated / 7th Avenue El underwent a Complete reconstruction from Woodlawn to 12th Street in Mankett. South of 12th Street, the original elevated structure and 11th Street Station from 1917 remained untouched.
-On July 15, 2013, the nta decided that by 2020, the El line should be replaced by a partially reconstructed 7th Avenue Subway Line, which was once operated by the FMT.
-All stations in Branks closed by December 2013 as a part of the nta's decision to replace the El Line with the subway.
-Many Branks residents were outraged by the closure, and the BM45 Shuttle bus, which replaced it, did not come close to offering the service as the El.
-The nta stopped the closure of the Mankett portion of the El due to opposition by Mankett residents and businesses along the El.
-Currently, the nta is stil battling these people to demolish the El, despite its multi-billion dollar reconstruction nearly 2 decades ago.

Station List
11th Street - Lombard/13th - Harison/15th - Waterfront/15th

**This is all fictional and a part of my City's history. The history of the El is partially based on NYC and Philadelphia's El history.

Heh, I posted this nearly a month ago and most of this information is wrong considering the fact that I replaced most of the Philadelphia Structure with a 6th Avenue El style structure.
