AU Profile - the Lotharingien-class aircraft carriers carry the distinction of being the only paddle-wheel aircraft carriers constructed in Europe. Converted from a number of older paddle-steamers that were sold to the Imperial Navy, the Lotharingien-class were frequently seen in the calm waters of the Adriatic and the Baltic, and many of the pilots that would go on to serve on the immense advanced carriers used by the empire would get their first taste of carrier operations on these unusual vessels.
