I've seen a variety of builders on PMC. Currently, I'm doing this kind of stuff now, but I usually see these builders using a resource/texture pack for their builds. Some also use the default textures, and that's what I've been doing for a while now, until my most recent build. Should I use a texture pack so that my builds look nice, or stick with the default textures? By the way, some packs that I've found improve the default one by changing stuff like stairs and slabs so they don't stick out with other blocks that have the same color as the retextured ones.
